As a youngster, our hero was considered very, very smart.
He was proficient in sophisticated computer languages and easily breezed through the most complex of programming tasks.
But alas, he fell into a deep sleep destined to last a good 30 years.
Upon awakening he discovered that whilst he slept, a bold, new world had arisen from the dark and gloomy technical land from whence he came.
(He also discovered there was now a "Mrs Stupidman" and a Very Bright but Slick
son, appropriately named "Greased Lighting"...
..and although he enjoyed the companionship of these newly discovered additions to his life, Stupidman also found they needed to be Fed and Housed..)
And that, Dear Reader, is how the "Adventures of Stupidman" Came to be Chronicled .
Everybody is or was an Internet Newbie. For the Gurus it is
a distant, faded memory. Intelligent people don't dwell on
or talk about their past newbieness as it is bad for
business.
(Can you imagine marketing the slogan "I don't
know much but buy from me anyway"?)
On the other hand, Stupidman has no pride. As he didn't
know any better he kept a diary from day one about his
struggles to learn what all the Gurus take for granted.
Who else would describe the consequences of hitting the
control key and another while in the midst of a long email
or what happens when you pull the printer power plug in a
frustrated effort to stop a print job.
Stumbling through the "simple" tasks wasn't enough, he had
to try and build a website from scratch.
Throughout all of his trials and tribulations his family
stood behind him, though at quite a distance, insisting he
not use their real names as they did not wish to relocate.
His editors couldn't decide whether to call this a
"how to" or "how not to" book. The only thing they agreed
upon was that the material is funny.
You will not learn how to make a million dollars by reading
this book, but young or old, experienced or not you are
